I was multiple pass surface welding one hot summer to build up worn out parts for remachining. I began smelling something odd. When I stopped and flipped up my helmet, there were flames right in front of my face.
I was wearing a cotton t-shirt, a long sleeve cotton work shirt, and a hooded cotton sweatshirt over the top of those. My sweatshirt and work shirt were burned completely through resulting in a hole you could stick a coffee can through. My t-shirt was scorched badly. Being soaked in sweat, I never felt a thing, but I was about to.
