Oh I’m sure it can be handled safely just I had a friend that restores vintage lighting & they use Lye in the patina process on new brass & it splashed in his eye…he lost his eye. I guess it’s probably no more dangerous than bleach or ammonia but it can cause severe damage to any part of your body if an accident happens.
