Ok, the after-type-transmission can be a quiet transmission if rebuilt correctly. Most of the time rebuild shops just change bearings and the rear seal and call it good, they don't have the specs. to rebuild properly. Spurs gears want to climb each other as they turn where helical gears push against each other. As the spurs attempt to climb, they have to have very tight clearances or they rattle. The whining sound is normal for the gears but not rattling or making the sound of a bad bearing. In fourth gear, a worn main shaft with worn splines or shift fork, or gear splines allows the 1st/2nd to rattle when in high direct. Clearance on shaft bearing surfaces is .002 anything beyond that and the shaft should be replaced, same for the driven gear bearing surface. PTO is the same for shaft and gears. Shift lever pin and shift lever half moon cut also have to be in good shape, pin has to be tight in the housing. 85W140 is fine to use in the tranny. At the link is a short video, if your trans doesn't sound like it, you need to redo the trans. 60MPH on mine is just as quiet as 30MPH. No excuse for a noisy tranny.
