My truck is 6 Volts. It would start when the stars were aligned just right. Crank slowly then catch. It always felt as it was one crank away from a dead battery. Then I installed O gauge battery cables. Starts every time. Before the guys on the forum helped me figure that out, I used a 12 Volt battery on just the starter. Cranked nice and fast.
