I'm starting to think that's a definite possibility. Vaughn's link says that lack of a functioning damper could result in the type of shake I'm seeing. My gauge is a real cheap-o and definitely doesn't have a damper in the line or liquid fill. I'll try to scare up a better gauge and re-check, along with trying a few of Vaughn's suggestions.
