I have 4.89 gearing, 9.00x16 tires, and a 230. That combination works great for me, however I have no experience with a 265.
My thought is that the 265 will be an improvement over the 230 while still maintaining the same basic characteristics, (and pitfalls, if that is your point of view) i.e.: a low reving high torque engine.
With that thought in mind, I am reflecting upon my experience as a young adult with highly built and modified 4-wheel-drive rigs (no Power-Wagons). I found that it is a lot easier to tailor your targeted end result on a compromise between power, torque, road speed, towing capacity, and fuel mileage with changes in tire sizes than it is to fiddle too much with gearing. Not to mention less of a hit on the wallet in trying different tires sizes as opposed to swapping out gear sets.
