Fuel sender and gauge

Hey guys I am getting ready to install the bed in my 50 PW and want to test the fuel gauge and sending unit before I lay the bed, my question is this truck is originally a 6V of course and I am converting it to 12 volt, do I need to reduce the voltage to 6V going to the fuel level gauge or will I be OK running 12 volts to the fuel gauge?
