When I was really big into four-wheeling, I had one battery dedicated to truck and one dedicated to the winch, both controlled with a battery isolator. That was 40 years ago so I can't remember the rest of the details of the wiring, but in an emergency, I could jump between the two batteries to start the truck if needed and to operate the winch if its battery was getting low. It never hurt any of the electricals.
