Just a couple of thoughts.
The choices in available 17" tires is greater.
The weight factor is significant when comparing 17" one piece rims with 16" split rings rims.
However, if originality is of any importance you might be able to find a tire dealer that services bigger trucks that will take on the split ring wheels. If you are anywhere near a Les Schwab dealer they very likely will take care of the job.
Otherwise as Chewie mentions, shipping could be a big factor.
