I contacted the seller to see if he would remove the filler plug and take a picture down through the hole so that we could see the condition of the gear teeth. He responded that he would not be able to get to the winch before the auction ends. He also said that shipping would be somewhere around $400.00 to ship it to me on the West coast and that I should probably think about trying to find one closer to me.

I have not told him that Illinois is nowhere near the West coast. At least not in proximity anyway.
