That makes sense. 1958 was the first year for the W300M. September sounds a little early but I guess not when you consider the October 1956 Manual that covered the 1958 K Series. Only a month's difference.
I always wondered why the 1957 body style lasted less than one year. It looks like they quickly got to work changing the body style again (for 1958) and had the new models all finalized by September of '57. Since the W100 and W200 models were introduced well after the start of 1957, they enjoyed a pretty short life span.
