Your assumption on the first series bed is correct.
Second series beds first year was 51. I believe that the third series started in 56, somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Second series bed had a angled top of bed sides and the stake pockets had a curve to them. The third series stake pockets were straight and the tops of the sides were flat. Both use the same tailgate and fenders.
