getting the hubs off the rear axle

I am in the midst of my B4 restoration and Luckely in a shop! But I am wondering for confirmation, Do I have to pull off the rear outer oil seal on the rear axle to get the hubs off. If so can this be done without ruining the seal or are they destroyed in the removal process? Any help appreciated.
