LPG is an excellent choice... if one can purchase it without a lengthy drive. I advise against a "dual-fuel" system because it's impossible to setup the engine to run efficiently on both because of the major differences between them. Finding optimum timing settings for example, is a hassle. 105+ octane LPG loves high compression... unleaded, of course, does not. Yes, LPG can double engine life because being a gaseous fuel, it doesn't wash the lubricants from cylinder walls or dilute oil as bad. HOWEVER, on old engines without hard valves and seats, you'll be doing valve jobs every 40-50k miles. If you setup a LPG only rig -- higher compression, modified advanced curve, blocked-off intake manifold heat - expect very little drop in milage, if any. On dual fuel or without the above mods, expect a 10-15% decrease in fuel milage (because LPG has lower BTU content than gasoline). -BeepBeep-
