230 cid engine and a 24v to 12v question?

how many miles will a stock power wagon 230cid engine usually run before it needs rebuilt?

does anyone know where to buy parts to convert a 24 volt system to a 12 volt system? is it expencive? and what parts need changing out to do this project?
