Randy, I took a piece of pipe just smaller than the seal by about 1/2" in diameter(roughly 4") Then I welded a round piece of 1/4" plate over one end. Put the pipe in the lathe & drilled a 3/4" hole in the center of the plate, took a 5/8" grade 8 fine thread nut & welded it to the plate so my harmomic balancer puller bolt will thread through the center of the pipe. You could use a regular 5/8" X 6" sae bolt, but you'd have to turn the end of the bolt to a point so as not to damage the threads on your drive pinion. That's the tool...now to get the seal out, just take out the cotter pin, undo the yoke nut & remove the yoke. Now hold the pipe centered on the seal & with your welder tack three small tacks around the seal. I used a regular arc welder with 1/16" 316 stainless rods, but thats because it was the only tiny rods I had. You could use any rods for this or prefferably a mig welder...just be careful to only weld on the seal & no BIG welds! 3 tiny tacks is plenty. Now just turn the long bolt in & the seal slides right out the way it went in.
I have a 10 ton overhead hoist, so I just hooked a sling to my frame & hoisted the front of my truck to eye level, those of you who don't have a hoist of some kind, you'll have to get dirty!!
If anyone wants to use it I can send it off to you.
