If its done through email there wont be a way to trace anything. Most ISP's have open email servers and this is how SPAM makes its rounds. You can point your email to an open server and let it do the sending. Some servers only require passwords to get in and get your email. Theres a slight chance the email server would record the incoming IP address but it would be one record in zillions and unless the feds were watching a certain situation no one is gonna even notice it. And if they did its most likely a dynamic ip and will change everytime the user hangs up and dials back in or re authenticated PPPoE on his DSL. I doubt this childish act will warrant the authorities and if it did it would be a day or 2 before the legal paper work was rolling to allow checking things and by then the email server logs would have since been refreshed with no trails. We wont even go into routers and hiding your real IP.
Now what could be happening is a worm or virus is on someones computer accessing this web site and is scanning for email address's here and sending out stuff that way. Thats why a lot of people put # instead of @ in their email address to avoid getting snagged up in the SPAM searchers people constantly run on the internet looking for email address's to capture and eventually send SPAM too.
