The military has officially been phasing out the 2.5 ton M35 truck for a while now in favor of the 5 ton M939s that started showing up in the 1980s. The M939 is a better deal because it gets about the same fuel economy but carries a lot more, and the M35s are wearing out. So there will be a lot of surplus M35s around starting now. They have been selling for about $4,000-$5,000 up to now, so I expect that they will get even cheaper.
Nothing against the M35, you sure do get a lot of truck for your money, but I can't think of a rational reason to own one. I understand that you need a commercial driver's license to drive one and I hear that insurance is a real bear.
Nevertheless, I'm sure that we will some day look back to this time and regret not buying one when they were really cheap.
