I have a little experience with magnetos because I have worked on a few Mules. They also have two cylinder engines with magnetos.
There should be one wire coming from the mag and it should go to ground when you want spark. If you don't get spark then, they have points in them simular to a distributor and they might need to be replaced.
Also, if anybody has taken the mag out, it is very critical that it is put in so that the timing is correct.
