At the extreme travel the angles change. Your ratio of steering wheel turns to wheel direction changes will vary a LOY form extreme left to extreme right. Though I don't know if it will have wear and tear problems.

My favorite system puts the usual Saginaw in place of the battery, on top of the frame. Then uses the M37 idler system with two drag links. Moving the box forward using a two piece shaft leaves the column in the OE place. nd I like the modern design of using a ball joint at the bottom of the column. Bell joints have some length wise travel to allow cab motion vs frame in off road conditions.

But if you do move the box elsewhere, make a block off plate for the former location. The flange on the OE box helped brace the frame where the factory holes were cut in.
