The ball should be parallel or in alignment with the steering gear shaft. There should be no bends. Chances are the truck was hit in an accident to bend the steering gear arm.
When looking at the engine, the ball should be equal both sides of the arm. When look towards the cab from the front, the lower steering gear arm should be equal with the shaft.
