The Military transmissions (NP-88671 (early synchronized), NP-93511 (late NP420 synchronized) will work on the ear PW (46 to early 56), the Civilian NP420 only works on late 56 - 71.
The PTO's between to two transmission may not directly interchange due to differences in cluster gears, so you may have to find a PTO for the model trans or change out idler gears to support the trans your using.
If you want front/rear driven PTO shafts on a 46-56 PW, find a Military NP420 and a civilian PW NP420 PTO. Dave C. can help with that.
