Here's my take on it:

If you know what you are doing - that is if you've rebuilt a differential before - it's a pretty straight forward process. But if you've never done one before it will be a challenge the first time. And you need a good dial indicator, and a way to mount it to the housing. Third members are harder to do than a NP200 transfer case.

Also, if you are using the repair manual that Gordon Maney published years ago, the write up has an error where it describes preloading the differential housing bearings. He and I went round and round about it one time, and I don't think he ever made the correction. So beware.

A complete set of bearings for the differential will cost you almost $600 from DC Truck Parts, which is probably the best deal you will find anywhere. Plus the pinion oil seal. Plus rebuilding the differential case washers if you want to get that deep into it.

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, just be aware of what's involved. We're here to help if needed.
