Fuel Pump Problems

I only got my WC40 on the road this summer. Last weekend I was driving it south from Portland to Albany, a distance of about 60 miles. I was going about 45 mph when my engine sputtered and stopped. I found I had fuel to the pump, but none to the carburetor. I later found the lever on the mechanical pump had broken. The engine and pump had 97 miles on them since a rebuild.

I have a M37 engine in my truck, with a civilian fuel pump. Would using this pump in a military engine have caused this problem?
