The Conelrad triangle stations came around in the 50's. It was designed to get information out to the public if there was a nuclear attack underway. It was also to throw off russian bombers as all radio stations would go dead except the 2 triangle freqs on the radio. This way the russian bombers could not use a radio station signal in a city they wanted to bomb to track and follow the signal to the city! The 2 triangle freqs would transmit from many locations around the country and throw off the tracking of any bombers. This was obsolete after the ICBM's came into the game.

Having one of the conelrad receivers that was used in a station now is a nice piece to collect in the antique radio world!
