In the day the Civil Defense channel would give information similar to todays Emergency Alert System (EAS)
My Power Wagon has a Civil Defense hand set in the cab with a tube radio in a watertight box on the passenger running board. I can turn on the hand set and listen to the tubes warm up, but have the wrong crystal to communicate with local Fire, Police or Office of Emergency Management. But is cool to know it still works from 1946.
