No brake lights

My 1969 w200 only has brake lights on rear right side tried everything to make the left work grounded the light to the frame new blubs re wired it and still no brake light turn signal and marker light work fine did notice that the brake light and right turn signal both run through the same wire tried to jump the wire and and it make both turn signals work when I turn on the right but when I unhook the jumper wire and turn on the right signal the left brake comes on....any help would be great
