note that the ww2 pintle hitch used on 1/2 and 3/4 ton dodges differs from the post war ffpw, the post war hitch has cast re-enforcements at diagonals from the mounting plate to the hitch assy where the military version does not, all are of the remote release type and mount properly with the hinged hook portion at the bottom and the fixed portion at the top this was designed for a cable or rope to be attached to the release ring so the towed item could be jettisoned while moving under combat conditions. i have seen several nice restorations where the hitch is mounted u-side-down !
