I agree with Jay, I would leave the housing attached to the springs. If the clip nuts are rusted, you could end up breaking a clip ("U" Bolt), just more expense and work, unless you're thinking of getting the housing cleaned, in which case, it's something to be aware of if you do it. If you have a problem bending over a lot, it would be more comfortable working with it on a stand.
