I used a hot coil once on an old 22r Toyota engine. Couldn't get it to run well with hot coil. So, i decided to watch it run at night, in the darkness. There was high voltage glow all over the place. The old spark plug wire insulation couldn't handle the new coil. Ther rest snow balled..... Better wires to match coil. Then we concluded the spark was jumping inside the distributor cap. Got better distributor cap. Still would not run correctly. Then we determined the carbon center pin in the new cap was missing. Speed shop reluctantly replaced the cap. The engine then started to run. Not much better than it had run prior! Should have got a more OEM type coil and wires from the start. Live and learn. The big fat yellow wires and brightly colored coil did not ever look correct on that old 22R pickup truck motor!
