I guess I misidentified my problem. It is not the starter relay. Its the key relay. When I turn the key on sometimes this relay, and it is under the dash "clicks", and then the gauges come to life and you can start the truck. and some times it does not click, and no power to the gauges or the key switch till it warms up, or decides it is going to work. It has taken several minutes lately for it to power up so I can start the truck. After it clicks, everything is normal. but until it powers up there is nothing. I can not locate this relay or whatever it is under the dash. I have pored over the wiring diagrams for hours looking for a likely culprit to no avail. the wiring diagrams for a 86 are fragmented, on many pages in the Dodge manual. that's what I am looking for, not the starter relay for the starter.
