The main reason I would change transmissions is to avoid having to use a special adapter to mate the 4BT to the PW transmission.
Switching the transmission and transfer case will not give you higher highway speeds.
As Marty said, the diesel doesn't rev high. So to get more speed you must go with different gearing in the drive train.
Even with a high revving V8 you would still need higher gearing in your drive train.
