Todd, I wish you weren't out on that Left Coast. Me and you could have that entire assembly rebuilt in a 2 day process.

All metal would be cleaned of hard crud while the housing sat in a kerosene bath. Remove bearings. Once relatively clean of grease chunks, they then get sandblasted or wire wheeled. Parts or inspected for errant grinder or torch cuts, along with chasing the threads and bolts. I then scrub with a scotch brite pad and Dawn dish soap to remove kerosene film and my oily hands. Air compressor dries the parts. I like to paint the inside of the housing first. Once dry, place new bearings on (after they've been in the freezer for a bit). New gaskets for the cover, paint the exterior, then reattach to the front of the truck and wrench your back! lol..

Todd, my recommendation would be for you to grab an extra transmission (something relatively cheap) and with manual in hand, have a go at studying the internals and disassemble/reassemble. The beauty of the winch is that although heavy, if you screw up something, you don't have to disassemble the truck to get to it!
