On page 307, Figure 184-removing Tire from Wheel, it shows side rings that bolt on to the wheel. I saw those on a FFPW on "Car Masters". They kept the rims, which looked great. My guess is that they are military wheels that your two articles refer to. Are they the same size as the other Budd rims that came on FFPWs?
It just occurred to me that I think that bolt on wheel sides are quite the fad in modified pick ups these days. I have seen them, or something similar on some modified trucks.
