Do your Reading.
In the mean time loosen the belt apply power to the armature terminal on Gen. it then should run as a motor. if does retighten belt, and while running momentarily ground the Field terminal, should go to wide open charge.
If Gen runs as a motor it's okay, If charges when grounding Field then Reg. problem or Polarizing.
