I put an MSD ignition system (distributor, coil, and a power box) in my '66 F350 with a 428 engine over 30 years ago. It has only failed me two times, but each time I went home behind another truck with a chain or a tow truck.
The Pertronix points replacement kit sounds like a better alternative, because you can bring some points along in case the electronics fail.
