I machined out the slot in the shift lever ball and made a shoe that slides in the slot and rotates on the end of the pin. The pin is threaded into the transmission cover tower and held in place with a lock nut. So the pin is 'bolted' in place and the shoe rotates on the pin while sliding back and forth in the slot. The purpose of this rather complex arrangement is to provide a large bearing surface to the ball slot thereby preventing rapid wear of pin and slot.
