It had an Chrysler 727 automatic with I guess what the refer to as a short tailshaft. The Transfer case was in the original position and the shaft from the transmission to the transfer case was no shorter than the one on my W200 Crewcab with the NP435 manual transmission.

I do know as I was searching through junk yards to replace pulleys on the engine that were no longer used (I think the original application of the engine in my truck had power steering and air conditioning driven off of the pulleys), I found that there were many different groove counts, overall pulley depths, and even water pump lengths used on the big blocks.

You may have to do a little searching to find the right components if your engine is too long from the fan blade to the rear of the valve covers. I do think your bellhousing depth is contributing to the length problem.
