There are 2 kinds of electric pumps. The sort that are mounted vertically, and the other that is in line. I was told by a tech at Facet pumps that with the vertical type you can not pull fuel through them with a mechanical pump but the inline pumps you can.
I run an inline on my M37 with an switch that I can pull on if the dreaded vapor lock rears its ugly head. The electric pump will usually clear it up.
