It sounds like you have 4.89 gears. The reason you're only getting 2.5 turns of the driveshaft is because of the way the spider gears and side gears work inside the differential.

As Vaughn said, the ratio should be stamped on the exterior of the housing, but be aware that the original gears have often been changed, so that stamped number does not always reflect what's currently inside the differential.
