The Chalk Test seems appropriate, within reason

Thanks Guys, I appreciate the discussion and additional insight.

The tires I have at the moment are NDT recaps. Next summer I have a set of Power King 9.00-16's to install.

The present set at 40 PSI only has tread contact in the middle 3/4's of the tire, despite the recap being a full witdh tread, unlike the NDT. Even on the front tires the tire tread is only touching largely in the center. I did consult my M37 manual which suggests 15 psi is acceptable for NDT's when operating in mud or snow. I am assuming that is to engage the outer edges of the tire more. Guessing the limitations with such behavior are low speed, and limited distance.

I would like to have somewhat even tire wear across the whole width of tire when I get the Power King's installed. Also at present the truck is just about helpless in snow and acts as if the front tires are over inflated. These recaps are basically junk, so I am comfortable exploring lower tire pressures to see how that effects the trucks behavior. Total mileage between now and spring may be 30-50 miles in 6 mile increments. No open road, or speeds above 25 MPH.
