That would be a good idea if this filter was mounted using a bracket, like the bypass filters, but it's a different animal altogether. It is an aluminum housing with two bolt holes at the base (bottom) where it bolts directly to the block on a specially made pad that's part of the block, and that pad has two bolt holes to line up with the bolt holes in the filter housing. That pad also has two oil passages that line up with passages in the filter housing base. There are no external oil lines. I don't have a photo hosting service or I'd post a photo of it.

If it comes to it, I might be able to make a thick spacer to move the filter housing outward from the block, but it would have to be pretty thick - probably 2" or more - and of course, I'd have to drill two holes for the bolts and two other holes for oil passages through that spacer, although that's not a big deal. It would just be nice to know if an alternate starter is an option.
