My mid-year 1951 south Texas and well preserved tailgate bears bright silver tailgate lettering; the same color as the engine. Also, the lettering is painted not just on the top surface of the letters, but all the way down to the base of each letter. How they did that so perfectly without getting the silver on the rest of the tailgate has always baffled me.
