When I got my carryall WC53 I spent a lot of time with 600 and finer sandpaper going through the layers looking for the military numbers that were under many layers of paint. I got them plus the star. Just work slowly.
Interesting, the military numbers had never been repainted so they were original. The bumper numbers were gone as the front bumper was replaced by a plow/winch bumper. There were numbers/letters on the bottom of the tailgate but I have never been able to decipher them. The military number is 1 digit short but the text US is close enough to the last digit to show that the last digit was never there. All numbers were consistent on the hood halves and the tailgate.
