I would try cleaning the PCV as suggested and make sure the engine is running hot enough to keep the sludge melted and pistons clean. The obvious is the rings aren't sealing so the question is why? Is it wear or is it some sticky rings? Is this a new problem or something that has existed for years?
I would add some Lucas oil stabilizer to help make the oil more tacky and hopefully keeping it from passing the rings.
I understand not affording a full rebuild, but perhaps a hone and re-ring are an option.
