I thought Bump Steer is when suspension travel changes the distance from the king pin to the pitman arm. So, the wheels pivot on the king pin even though you didn't turn the wheel. They say that crossover steering reduces bump steer, because it give you a longer drag link.
I don't know the name for the kickback that you get in the wheel that you described. Worst I ever experience was in a '59 NAPCO Chevy. You basically couldn't steer it through ruts.
I have never noticed bump steer to be a problem in any of my Dodges. I have had crossover steering cause other problems in a Jeep. Crossover steering can push the suspension sideways. When that happens, moving the shackles to the rear helps.
