Well...where to begin?
I suppose some questions that need to be answered.
Are you buying a stock truck or a restomod? Has it been on the road recently or will you be waking it up from a nap? Are you able to troubleshoot problems as you go? There are not a lot of parts for a 60+ year old vehicle that you will be able to just walk into any parts store and grab off the shelf... How are the tires?
I have attended the WV road rally several times and have driven a variety of trucks the duration of the trip. (several hundred miles in a weekend) On one occasion an attendee drove his stock M37 from Massachusetts to WV, then the rally locations, and finally back home. Basically what I am saying is any distance is possible if you have the time. For the rally I carry ignition parts, wire and connectors, propane soldering torch, jump pack, fuel line, electric pump, and jerry can. this is in addition to the jumper cables, tow strap, oil, and spare bulbs I normally keep in the truck. Over the past several trips we have used everything I carry. With the exception of the fuel can, the additional things fit into a medium sized plastic horrible freight tool box.
Plan your route, avoid interstate highway speeds where possible and be mindful of what the vehicle tells you while you're driving. If you think there is something wrong, stop and check.
