All great questions and yes checked most:
- What did you set the engine timing at? I run my PW at 8 BTDC.
Not sure I’ll be checking that next. I usually time by ear. Since moving here to high elevation compression readings, idle, air fuel mix, timing all a blur.. I had a brand new engine in my CJ3A in oklahoma (1000 feet above sea level) and I got 20+ lb compression. When I got it here, it was a real dog! Ran compression and only had 16-17 lbs!!
- Have you adjusted the brakes to make sure they are not dragging? Parking brake band? It can be a real power robber if it's dragging.
Yup. All good there. Great point though as it HAS happened to me before!
- Do you have free wheeling hubs in front?
No. I do t on this truck. I do know it helps so I MAY get a set for this truck
- Is the mechanical spark advance working on the distributor?
Yes. Seems to be working. It’s freed up anyway. Not rusted do it does do it’s Intended job.
Anything to look for in particular in the mechanical weights?
