I double that thought, keep it original, everyone is modifying these trucks.
With couple hundred more dollars you can fine a 12 volt alternator that is virtually identical to the original generator so brackets need not be replaced and looks nice
Modify your GMC for a daily driver, have the Power Wagon as a mother back up, slow drives to hardware, and special interest as you go to show's or to dinner with your bride
