The best advice I was given is to stop trying to drive by rules and let the sights and sounds tell you how to drive. When it comes to shifting a non-syncro I was told that once I learned to "feel your way through the gearbox" the shifting becomes much easier. In the Power Wagons I have found the first series crash boxes shift a little easier than the second series. Both are very challenging, especially to learn on, if the shift top is worn. If it feels like you are stirring a pot of soup shifting 2-3 and 3 - 4 do not feel "in line" you have an issue in the top.

As others have said up shifts are easier and are: clutch down, neutral, clutch up, clutch down, gear. Downs are clutch down, neutral, clutch up, blip throttle, clutch down, gear. You do not want to rush through the process, but you do not want to take too much time either. Make your moves with purpose and be decisive and commit to your shift. If you miss a shift it is often easier to grab the higher gear again and repeat rather than try to force the lower gear. From there it is just practice.

You will look cooler grinding gears in your vintage iron than in a lowered honda with a stupid spoiler every single time.

Good luck!
